I've got to be honest with you. Writing my artist bio bores me to death. Not that I think that bios are unimportant, its just they always come out so dry and lifeless. Yes, I was fortunate enough to receive a degree from a State University in my home town of Krasnodar, Russia and still get the benefit of the generation of painters that was on the way out. Real stars of Russian painting scene. Just seeing what was possible to do with a brush gave energy to keep growing long after I graduated.
My initial infatuation with painting and passion with which I started learning has worn off, but it has been replaced by something deeper, more meaningful and long lasting. I am a painter, I believe, until the very end. I have no particular agenda, or an idea that I am promoting or exploring. I am driven by the visual first, by the color and light as physical representations of something more subtle, something we don't quite understand or grasp, but have a chance to taste through various forms of artistic expression.
Honestly I don't believe I do anything special. I am humbled by people who have loved my work to buy it, put it up in their homes and businesses, take it to other countries with them. I feel very deep appreciation for this very important part that the viewer of my work plays in this equation. I know that everyone that sees the beauty in my work, sees it in themselves, and therefore everyone has potential for this clean connection to inspiration.
Recently I have opened an art gallery in the French Quarter of New Orleans with another painter and a friend, Larisa Ivakina-Clevenger. It has been amazing to be in the midst of such diversity and culture. Its a challenging and hard project, but its helped us expose our art to larger audiences. In my case, I have been a part of shows, and was shown at the galleries in Baton Rouge, Monroe and New Orleans, but never had a place that was half filled with just my work. Please come and visit us any time. The address of the gallery is 830 Chartres. St.
On a personal level, I will be 33 years old this year (2012) and I have three children 12,7, and almost 3. I am married to the most supportive, kind and loving man, David Dunn. Without him I couldn't do what I do.
I hope to keep learning new things and evolving as a painter. I hope you keep in touch and come visit me at the gallery one day.
